Welcome to Berry Studios

Berry Studios is a family owned business, and was founded in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1972 by Alaskan wildlife artist William “Bill” D. Berry and his wife Elizabeth "Liz" Berry. Together they produced paintings, prints, cards, and books of Bill’s work, inspired by the natural world.

Bill Berry was a nationally recognized wildlife artist, known especially for his passion and dedication to skillfully capturing the essence of Alaska's wild creatures and untamed landscape. Bill’s fascination, and sometimes obsession, with recording the working processes of the natural world filled up most of his time.

The sensitivity to life reflected in his drawings also pervaded his everyday existence, to the point where he rarely swatted at the relentless mosquitoes so typical of the Alaskan tundra. His joy in life came from observing and drawing living things, made apparent by his prolific portfolio, which he continued to develop up until his death in 1979. Liz Berry continued producing editions of Bill’s work through Berry Studios until just before she passed away in the spring of 2006.

Berry Studios is now located in Gustavus, Alaska, and is currently managed by Bill and Liz’s son, Mark Berry, his wife Diana, and their daughter Hannah. Bill’s artistic genes were passed down to Mark, and he has played a key role in reproducing and enlarging many of Bill’s sculptures. In his spare time, Mark has also been known to sculpt his own works in clay, marble, and even chocolate. Having inherited Liz’s ceramic studio, Diana was motivated to become a potter as well. Like Liz, she continues to incorporate Bill’s work into her dishes and designs, while also forging her own unique style. Inspired by the creative legacy of her family, Hannah too has pursued a career as an artist. Her work can be found at www.hannahroseberrystudios.com.
